Alex Lussier - Colorado Trail Race

After Many Years of Threatening to enter a bike-pack race I finally pulled the trigger on the 2015 Colorado Trail Race. I thing this one mostly Because It fit in well with my schedule. I soon Realized That bike-packing races come in very different flavors. As I Pushed my bike up yet Reviews another high mountain pass gold, i could not help comparing this goal to a 500 mile enduro. The Colorado Trails is a hiking trail Predominantly bike and the acts Alternately have a fantastic enabler and a ridiculous and awkward object That You lug up or down a rocky path.

Day 1 Had Me climbing over 21,000 feet from Durango, Silverton through, and beyond into the San Juan Mountains. The race started at 4:00 am and 1:30 am It was the next day by the time I-settled down for the "night." I was lucky enough to find Reviews another competitor to share the last 7 hour push into the night. We Travelled 98 miles at 12,800 feet and bivied. It was a weird experience to be out of breath When I was try trying to sleep and this Would come to bite me later.

For some strange reason Amy and I decided to try our hand at Enduro Motocross.  Ive always enjoyed experiencing new sports/experiences, and we had both recently purchased enduro-style motos.   I managed to talk Amy into racing even though this would only be her sixth time riding a dirt bike.

Weather at the start was maybe 69 degress.  Perfect.  Landen, Orion Berryman, Josh T, Matt Seeley, and Scott H. were in the 1/2s along with some other guys I don't know.  Bracken Spencer was in the 3s and David Coletta's brother, John (3), who races for the Amgen Masters team out of Boulder CO was there as well.  I went in thinking I would work against the 3s and see what happened.

I have to say, the level of the 1/2s is pretty awe inspiring.  Those guys, Matt Seeley, Josh Tack, Orion Berryman, can turn it up and leave you on the side of the road in a heartbeat, but not too long ago our "A" team was mopping the floor with them. I'm always amazed by the range of ability in bike racing.  Just when you think somebody's fast, there's always somebody faster.
