Saturday March 15th was the 7th annual Bozeman Run to the Pub road race presented by cosponsors Bozeman Running Company and Pub 317.  This event has become the first big running race of the season and an excellent test of fitness for many runners around the region.  There are 2 distances:  Half-Marathon and 10km.  I did the 10km along with 1795 others.

The racing conditions were near perfect with dry roads, cool temp of 37F at start and light winds at our back.  The field was ready to run and it showed with a large group of runners sprinting from the line when the gun went off.  I started more conservatively, hoping to ease myself into the first race of the season.

At mile 1, I was maybe the 35th runner. At 2 miles, the field was beginning to thin out and I was moving up.  At 3 miles, I was 14th with a string of runners well spaced in front of me as the course started its gentle stretch down Sourdough Road to Main Street.  The effort was intense, but we ran our miles this winter and my form held together through second half of the race.  At the finish line, I was 8th overall and 1st Masters.  The winner was former MSU star Carl Nystuen in 35:22.
